Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American R&B/pop singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer and actor. He has won six Grammy Awards as well as an Emmy Award.

Justin Timberlake came to fame as one of the lead singers of pop vocal harmony group ("boy band") 'N Sync, whose launch was financed by Lou Pearlman. In 2002, he released his debut solo album, Justified, which sold more than 7 million copies worldwide. Timberlake's second solo release, FutureSex/LoveSounds, was released in 2006 with the U.S. number-one hit singles "SexyBack", "My Love", and "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around". The album also spawned three additional U.S. top twenty hits ("Summer Love", "LoveStoned", and "Until the End of Time").

As of January 2008, FutureSex/LoveSounds has sold more than 8.6 million copies. With his first two albums, Timberlake has sold more than 18 million records worldwide alone, as well as more than 50 million copies as one of the two lead singers in 'N Sync. His other ventures include record label Tennman Records, fashion label William Rast, and the restaurants Destino and Southern Hospitality.

Timberlake was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Lynn Harless (née Bomar) and Randall Timberlake. He has English ancestry, although he has also claimed some American Indian ancestry, probably through unconfirmed descent from Henry Timberlake. His paternal grandfather, Charles L. Timberlake, husband of Bobbye Joice, was a Baptist minister, and Timberlake was raised Baptist; he considers himself more "spiritual than religious", though still a Christian.

His parents divorced about 1985 and both have remarried; his mother, who now runs an entertainment company called Just-in Time Entertainment, remarried to Paul Harless, a banker, when Justin was aged five; while his father, a choir director at a Baptist church, has two children, Jonathan (born c. 1993) and Steven Robert (born August 14, 1998), from his second marriage to Lisa Perry. Timberlake's half-sister, Laura Katherine, died shortly after birth on May 14, 1997 and is mentioned in his acknowledgments in the album *NSYNC as "My Angel in Heaven". Timberlake grew up in Shelby Forest, a small community between Memphis and Millington. His first attempts at a singing career were country music songs on Star Search as "Justin Randall".

In 1993, Timberlake joined the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club. His castmates included future girlfriend and pop superstar Britney Spears, future tourmate Christina Aguilera, and future bandmate JC Chasez. The show ended in 1994, but late in 1995 Timberlake recruited Chasez to be in an all-male singing group organized by boy band manager Lou Pearlman; that eventually became 'N Sync.


Music career

1995–2002: 'N Sync

Timberlake and JC Chasez, who had known each other in the Mickey Mouse Club, were the two lead singers of the popular 1990s boy band, 'N Sync. The group formed in 1995 and started their career 1996 in Europe, and hit it big in the United States two years later in 1998 with the release of their debut album *NSYNC in the US. *NSYNC sold 11 million copies alone. The album included a number of hit singles such as Tearin' Up My Heart. For the next two years, they, encouraged by similar situations in the Backstreet Boys, engaged in a lengthy legal battle with corrupt manager Lou Pearlman. Eventually they signed with Jive Records. They released a long-awaited album, No Strings Attached, in March 2000, which became the fastest-selling album of all time with 2.4 million copies sold in its first week[ and produced a #1 single, It's Gonna Be Me. The release was followed by their third album, Celebrity, which held the title of the second-fastest selling album of all time. In 2002, after the completion of their Celebrity Tour and release of Girlfriend, the third single from Celebrity the group decided to take time off, at which point Timberlake began work on his first solo album and the group went into a hiatus. In its lifetime, NSYNC was internationally famous and performed at the Academy Awards, the Olympics, and the Super Bowl, as well as selling more than 50 million copies worldwide, becoming the third best-selling boyband in history.

During late 1999 Timberlake made his acting debut in the Disney Channel movie Model Behavior, in which he played Jason Sharpe, a model who falls in love with a waitress after mistaking her for another model. It was released on March 12, 2000.[19]

As a member of 'N Sync, Timberlake developed into a major celebrity in his own right, as well as gaining respect as a musician, being writer or co-writer of all three singles from Celebrity. The rising of his own stardom and the falling popularity of "boy bands" led to his reticence to end 'N Sync's hiatus, although the group has never officially disbanded. Bandmember Lance Bass has stated he believes the group is finished,[20] and is openly critical of Timberlake's actions in his memoir Out of Sync. However Chris Kirkpatrick remarked in August 2008 that the five remain friends and he believed a reunion was possible,[21] and early in September Bass also made similar conciliatory comments.[22]


2002–2004: Justified and Super Bowl

In August 2002, after months of recording the album, Timberlake performed at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, where he premiered his first single, "Like I Love You", a sparse dance track produced by The Neptunes.[23] The song reached number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100.[24] Following the single, Timberlake released his debut solo album, Justified, on November 5, 2002.[25] The album sold fewer copies than previous 'N Sync efforts. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 439,000 copies in its first week of release. It eventually went on to sell more than three million copies in the U.S. and more than seven million copies worldwide.[26] The album also received critical acclaim, thanks to its heavy R&B influence provided by hip-hop producers The Neptunes and Timbaland.[27] It spun off hits throughout late 2002 and 2003, including the top ten singles "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body".[24]

Timberlake supported the album by co-headlining the Justified/Stripped Tour with Christina Aguilera in the summer of 2003.[28] At the end of the year, Timberlake recorded a song entitled "I'm Lovin' It". It was used by McDonald's as the theme to their "I'm Lovin' It" campaign. The deal with McDonald's earned Timberlake an estimated $6 million.[29]

In February 2004, during the halftime show of the Super Bowl XXXVIII broadcast on the CBS television network, Timberlake performed with Janet Jackson before a television audience of more than 140 million viewers. At the end of the performance, Timberlake tore off a part of Jackson's black leather costume in a "costume reveal" meant to accompany a portion of the song lyrics. Part of the costume became detached, and Jackson's breast was briefly exposed.[30] Timberlake apologized for the incident saying that he was "sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl...".[31] The phrase "wardrobe malfunction" has since been used by the media to refer to the incident and has entered pop culture.[32]

As a result of the controversy, Timberlake and Jackson were banned from the 2004 Grammy Awards unless they agreed to apologize on screen at the event.[33] Timberlake attended and issued a scripted apology when accepting the first of two Grammy Awards he received that night (Best Pop Vocal Album for Justified and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Cry Me a River").[34] He had also been nominated for Album of the Year for Justified, Record of the Year for "Cry Me a River", and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Where Is the Love?" with The Black Eyed Peas.[35]


2004–2006: Collaborations and acting
After the Super Bowl controversy, Timberlake put his recording career on hold to act in several films, having starred in a few feature films earlier in his music career.[8] The first role he took during this time was as a journalist in the thriller Edison Force, which was filmed in 2004 and received a direct-to-video release on July 18, 2006.[36] He also appeared in the films Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, Richard Kelly's Southland Tales, and voiced Prince Artie Pendragon in the animated film Shrek the Third, released on May 18, 2007.[37] He also appeared as a young Elton John, in the video for John's song "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore".[38]

He continued to record with other artists. After "Where Is the Love?", he again collaborated with the Black Eyed Peas on the 2005 track "My Style" from their album Monkey Business.[39] Additionally, Timberlake was featured on Nelly's song, "Work It", which was remixed and included on Nelly's 2003 remix album.[40] When recording the 2005 single "Signs" with Snoop Dogg, Timberlake discovered a throat condition.[41] Nodules were subsequently removed from his throat in an operation that took place on May 5, 2005.[42] He was advised not to sing or speak loudly for at least a few months.[43] In the summer of 2005, Timberlake started his own record company, JayTee Records.[44]

Timberlake made a cameo in the video for Nelly Furtado and Timbaland's single "Promiscuous", released on May 3, 2006.


2006–2008: FutureSex/LoveSounds

The album, which Timberlake created in 2005, debuted in the number one position on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling 684,000 copies its first week.[45] It is the biggest album for pre-orders on iTunes, and beat Coldplay's record for the biggest one-week sales of a digital album.[46] The album was produced by Timbaland and Danja (who produced a bulk of the album), will.i.am, Rick Rubin and Timberlake himself, and features guest vocals by Three 6 Mafia, T.I. and will.i.am.[47] A studio representative described it as being "all about sexiness" and aiming for "an adult feel".[42]

The album's lead single, "SexyBack", was performed by Timberlake at the opening of the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for seven consecutive weeks.[48] "My Love", the album's second single, also produced by Timbaland and featuring rapper T.I., reached number one on the Hot 100, as did third single "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around Interlude". The song is reported to have been inspired by the break-up of his childhood friend and business partner, Trace Ayala, with actress Elisha Cuthbert.[49] In October 2006, Timberlake said that he would focus on his music career rather than his film roles, specifying that leaving the music industry would be a "dumb thing to do at this point".[48] He was the special guest performer at the 2006 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for being where he sang SexyBack. In January 2007, Timberlake embarked on the FutureSex/LoveShow tour. "Summer Love/Set the Mood Prelude" was the fourth U.S. single off the album, and the next single in the UK was "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows Interlude". The song "Give It to Me", a Timbaland single on which Timberlake guests with Nelly Furtado, reached the Hot 100 number-one spot.[50]

In August 2007, Timberlake sold out two concerts at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, and then played two sold-out shows in Winnipeg at the MTS Centre.[51]

In February 2008, Timberlake was awarded 2 Grammy Awards. At the 50th Grammy Awards Ceremony, Timberlake won the Male Pop Performance Award for "What Goes Around...Comes Around", and the Dance Recording Award for "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows".[52]


2007-2008: Collaborations and acting
In April 2007, Timberlake was seen entering a London studio with Madonna, thus confirming rumors that he was collaborating with the pop star. He revealed that "we actually wound up with 5 or 6 really good songs, some finished, some unfinished, and we're gonna go back in July and finish some more stuff." When asked if he would be singing with Madonna, he said, "[p]ossibly, yeah!".[53]

The single produced by Timberlake, Madonna, and Timbaland was reported to be "4 Minutes", which Timbaland first played at Philadelphia's Jingle Ball on December 17, 2007.[54] When released on March 17, 2008, "4 Minutes" was revealed to be a duet between Timberlake and Madonna, with backing vocals by Timbaland. It was the lead single from Madonna's eleventh studio album Hard Candy, which also features four other songwriting and production collaborations from Timberlake. The single was an international hit, and has topped the charts in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and reached the Top 5 in Austria, France, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and the United States. Timberlake also appears in the music video which was directed by Jonas & François. On March 30, 2008, Timberlake performed the song at Madonna's Hard Candy Promo Show at Roseland Ballroom in New York City.[55] On November 6, 2008, Timberlake performed the song with Madonna on the Los Angeles stop of her Sticky & Sweet Tour.[56]

Around June 2007 Timberlake co-wrote, produced and provided vocals for the songs Nite Runner and Falling Down for Duran Duran's album Red Carpet Massacre, released on November 13, 2007 in the USA. Falling Down had been released as a single in the UK on the previous day.[57]

Also in 2007, Timberlake made an appearance on 50 Cent's third album, Curtis. Timberlake, along with Timbaland, is featured on a track called "Ayo Technology", which was the album's fourth single. Also, another possible collaboration will occur with Lil Wayne for his upcoming album Tha Carter III with Nelly Furtado and Timbaland.[58]

With the wrapping up of the 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' tour of Australasia and the Middle East in November 2007, Timberlake resumed his film career. Projects underway early in 2008 were starring roles in Mike Myers' comedy The Love Guru (released June 20, 2008) and Mike Meredith's drama The Open Road. In March 2008 it was announced that he was be an executive producer in an American adaptation of the hit Peruvian comedy My Problem with Women for NBC.[59]

In November, It was confirmed that Timberlake will be making a guest appearance and producing some songs on singer Ciara's upcoming album Fantasy Ride due out early 2009.


Other work
Near the end of 2002, Timberlake was the first celebrity to appear on Punk'd, a "candid camera" type show created by Ashton Kutcher to trick celebrities.[60] Three episodes later, he set up Kelly Osbourne to be "punk'd", thus making him the first celebrity to appear on the show more than once.[61] Timberlake later spoofed Ashton Kutcher and Punk'd in a 2003 episode of NBC's Saturday Night Live.[62]

In 2004, ABC hired Timberlake to write a song for its NBA coverage.

Timberlake has co-owned three restaurants in the United States: "Chi" opened in West Hollywood, California in 2003,[63] and "Destino" and "Southern Hospitalty" in New York opened in 2006 and 2007, respectively.[64]

In 2005 Timberlake launched the William Rast clothing line with childhood friend Juan ("Trace") Ayala. The 2007 line contained cord jackets, cashmere sweaters, jeans and polo shirts.[65] He also heavily campaigned to play the role of Roger Davis in the film version of the rock musical RENT, but many of the original cast members from the stage production returned at the insistence of the director [66]. Coincidentaly, former band member Joey Fatone appeared in a stage version of RENT as Mark Cohen.

In October 2005, the Grammy Association awarded Timberlake for humanitarian efforts in Tennessee, alongside writer/director Craig Brewer, also a Memphis native.[67]

Timberlake has hosted many music events, including the European MTV Music Awards in 2006.

On December 16, 2006, Timberlake hosted Saturday Night Live, doing double duty as both host and musical guest for the second time. During this appearance, he and Andy Samberg performed an R&B song for a skit entitled "Dick in a Box," which some radio stations have aired as an unofficial single from Timberlake and has become one of the most viewed videos on YouTube.

On November 12, 2007, the PGA Tour announced that Timberlake, an avid golfer who plays to a 6 handicap,[68] would become the host of the tour's Las Vegas tournament starting in 2008. With Timberlake's agreement to host the tournament, its name was changed to the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He will play in the celebrity pro-am on the day before the competitive tournament and host a charity concert during the week of the tournament.

Timberlake has donated parts of his earnings to charity. In November 2007 he donated $A100,000 from takings from his Australian tour to Wildlife Warriors founded by the late Steve Irwin. On March 23, 2008, he donated $100,000 to the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum and another $100,000 to the Memphis Music Foundation.


Personal life

Timberlake golfing in 2006.Two early teen romances, first to a school sweetheart and then to aspiring pop singer Veronica Finn predated intense media interest, but both ended unhappily. Early in 1999 Timberlake began what eventually became a high-profile celebrity relationship with fellow pop singer Britney Spears, with whom he had worked on the New Mickey Mouse Club. This ended abruptly in March 2002, amidst tabloid press speculation on Spears' infidelity with choreographer Wade Robson, a mutual friend of Spears and Timberlake. Lynn Harless says as a mother she too was devastated regarding the break-up, but to this day speaks warmly of Spears, "Britney grew up on my living room floor. I still love her to death. They (Justin and Britney) were together 10 or 11 years and had, from day one, instant chemistry between them. She's a sweet girl. I just hate what she's going through now." The breakup influenced the lyrics and theme of Timberlake's hit "Cry Me A River", one of the most popular singles from Justified.[73]

Post-Spears, Timberlake has generally refused to discuss his personal life with the media, as a result of which his relationships have been the subject of much speculation in the tabloid and celebrity press. He was romantically linked with actress-dancer Jenna Dewan (in mid-2002)[74] and actress-singer Alyssa Milano (between September and October 2002).[74] Timberlake began dating actress Cameron Diaz soon after they met at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in April 2003. Regular rumours of break-ups reported in the tabloid press were either ignored or occasionally denied.[75][76] On the December 16, 2006 episode of Saturday Night Live, Diaz introduced Timberlake as the night's musical guest, and the couple officially split shortly afterwards. After the tabloid press alleged an affair between Timberlake and Scarlett Johannson, with whom he had shot the video for his single "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around Interlude",[77] Diaz and Timberlake issued a joint statement on January 11, 2007:[78]

“ It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we've spent together, we feel compelled to do so now, in light of recent speculation and the number of inaccurate stories that are being reported by the media. We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another.[79] ”

Later in January 2007 Timberlake was linked to Jessica Biel when pictures surfaced of the two snowboarding in Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival. On May 12, 2007 romantic pictures of Timberlake and Biel on multiple dates were published.[80][81] In the August 9-15, 2008 edition of Heat magazine, when Timberlake was asked to describe his perfect women, he replied "About 5ft.7in.-5ft.8in., nice butt, Midwestern American, kind-of-German last name, green eyes, big pouty lips, fair skin, ahhh....sinewy bod..." which is a fair description of Biel. However, during an appearance on the The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on June 11, 2008 when Jay Leno questioned him about anything related to rumours of engagement and pregnancy, Timberlake jokingly responded that he "is engaging in a conversation with Leno" and "everybody in general can get pregnant."[82]

Timberlake was given Sexiest Man titles by Teen People and Cosmopolitan magazines.[83] He has been quoted as being a vegetarian although the veracity of this source is questionable.[84]

El primer rol que desempeñó durante ésta época fue el de un periodista en la película Edison force,[11] que fue filmada en el año 2004 y fue lanzada directamente en vídeo el 18 de julio de 2006 conocida en España bajo el nombre de Edison, la ciudad sin ley. También actuó en los filmes Alpha dog,[12] Black Snake Moan[13] y prestó su voz para el personaje "Artie" en la película animada Shrek III,[14] estrenada el 18 de mayo de 2007. Además, encarnó a un joven Elton John en el vídeo musical del propio Elton "This train don't stop there anymore".[15]

Justin continuó grabando junto a otros artistas. Tras "Where is the love?", Justin colaboró nuevamente con The Black Eyed Peas en la canción "My style" del álbum Monkey Business (2005). También participó en el tema "Work it", que fue incluido en el disco de remezclas del rapero Nelly en 2003.

Mientras grababa la canción "Signs" junto a Snoop Dog, Justin descubrió que tenía problemas en su garganta. El 5 de mayo de 2005, se sometió a una operación para remover unos nódulos que tenía en dicha zona. Se le aconsejó no cantar, ni hablar en voz alta por lo menos durante unos meses.[16] En el año 2005, Justin instaló su propio sello discográfico, Tennman Records.


2006-presente: FutureSex/LoveSounds [editar]
Justin Timberlake actuando en uno de los conciertos de la gira musical FutureSex/LoveShow en Minnesota.Timberlake realizó un cameo en el video musical de Nelly Furtado y Timbaland "Promiscous". Lanzó su segundo álbum como solista, FutureSex/LoveSounds, el 12 de septiembre de 2006.[17] El álbum debutó en la primera posición de la lista Billboard,[18] vendiendo 684.000 copias en su primera semana.[19] Es el álbum con mayores ventas en la tienda de música digital iTunes[20] y rompió el récord alcanzado por la banda británica Coldplay del mayor número de ventas digitales en una semana. El disco fue producido por Timbaland y Danja, will.i.am, Rick Rubin y el propio Timberlake. Incluye colaboraciones de Three 6 Mafia, T.I. y will.i.am.

El primer sencillo del álbum, "SexyBack", fue interpretado por Justin en el show de apertura de los premios MTV Video Music Awards del año 2006 y alcanzó el puesto número 1 de la lista Billboard Hot 100, donde permaneció por siete semanas consecutivas.[21] "My love", el segundo single del álbum, también producido por Timbaland y con colaboraciones del rapero T.I., alcanzó el número 1 de la lista Billboard Hot 100,[22] así como el tercer sencillo "What goes around.../...Comes around".[23]

En octubre de 2006, Timberlake dijo que se concentraría más en su carrera musical que en la actuación, especificando que abandonar la industria de la música sería "algo tonto a estas alturas".[24] Fue el invitado especial para cantar durante el desfile de moda de Victoria's Secret del año 2006.[25]

En enero de 2007, Timberlake inició la gira de conciertos FutureSex/LoveShow. El cuarto sencillo del álbum FutureSex/LoveSounds fue "Summer love/Let the mood (interlude)" en Estados Unidos y "LoveStoned/I think she knows (interlude)" en Reino Unido.


Otros trabajos [editar]A finales del año 2002, Justin fue la primera celebridad en aparecer en el programa de televisión Punk'd, un espacio dedicado a hacer bromas a personajes famosos, conducido por el actor Ashton Kutcher. Tres episodios más tarde, Timberlake fue quien intervino en el show para hacerle una broma a Kelly Osbourne y luego, en el año 2003, Justin parodió a Kutcher y su programa en uno de los episodios de Saturday Night Live.

En el año 2004, la cadena de televisión ABC contrató a Justin para que escribiera una canción para su cobertura de la NBA. En el año 2005 lanzó la línea de vestuario William Rast, vendida en las tiendas Bloomingdale's, junto a su amigo de la infancia Trace Ayala y en octubre de ese mismo año, la Asociación Grammy premió a Justin por sus esfuerzos humanitarios en Tenessee, junto al escritor y director Craig Brewer, quien también es nativo de ese lugar.

En septiembre de 2006, se publicó la noticia de que Justin estaba trabajando en el nuevo álbum de la banda Duran Duran.[26] En noviembre, él fue el encargado de conducir la ceremonia de entrega de los premios MTV Europe Music Awards.[27] El 16 de diciembre de ése mismo año, fue el conductor y el artista invitado del programa de TV estadounidense Saturday Night Live. Durante esta aparición, Justin y el comediante Andy Samberg interpretaron la canción "Dick in a box", la cual algunas estaciones de radio emitieron como un single no-oficial de Timberlake. El video musical de la canción se convirtió en uno de los más vistos en el sitio YouTube.


La estatua de cera de Timberlake en el Museo Madame Tussauds de Londres, Inglaterra.En el año 2007, Justin colaboró con el tercer álbum del rapero 50 Cent, Curtis. Timberlake y Timbaland aparecen acreditados en la canción "Ayo technology", que fue el cuarto sencillo del disco. En abril de aquel año, Timberlake fue visto a la entrada de un estudio de grabación junto a la cantante Madonna,[28] con quien colaboró en el single "4 Minutes". Días más tarde, el Museo Madame Tussauds de Londres presentó la estatua de cera de Timberlake, coincidiendo con el término de su gira musical en Inglaterra.[29]

En julio, Justin inauguró el restaurante Southern Hospitality en Nueva York. El menú, elogiado por la prensa especializada,[30] se basa en platos típicos del lugar de nacimiento de Timberlake. Otros restaurantes en los que Timberlake es co-propietario son Chi (cuya especialidad es la comida china y está ubicado dentro del Hyatt Hotel de Hollywood)[31] y Destino (que ofrece comida italiana en Manhattan, Nueva York).[32]

El 7 de marzo de 2008, Justin adquirió, a través de su productora Reveille Productions, los derechos para realizar la versión en inglés de la telenovela peruana Mi problema con las mujeres, la cual será transmitida por la señal NBC.[33] Cuatro días más tarde, Timberlake apadrinó a la cantante Madonna en su ingreso al Salón de la Fama del Rock. Justin acudió a la ceremonia y la presentó diciendo: "El mundo está lleno de mujeres que quieren ser como Madonna. Yo mismo he tenido citas con algunas, pero sólo hay una Madonna verdadera".[34]

Cuando Madonna lanzó su álbum Hard Candy a fines de abril de 2008, Timberlake la acompañó en un concierto que la cantante ofreció en el club Roseland de Nueva York.[35] Juntos interpretaron "4 minutes" ante una audiencia de 2.200 personas, entre los cuales había periodistas, invitados VIP y un grupo de personas que había ganado un concurso de la empresa Verizon para presenciar el show gratis. Justin también participó en el video musical del single, dirigido por el dúo Jonas & François, que fue filmado entre el 30 de enero y el 1 de febrero de 2008 en Londres.

En junio de 2008, Timberlake lanzó su propia línea de perfumes junto a la marca Givenchy. Una de las actividades que realizó fue promocionar en París el nuevo perfume masculino Play. Al mes siguiente, Timberlake ofició como anfitrión de la decimosexta entrega de los premios ESPY, otorgados por el canal ESPN a los deportistas más destacados.[36]

El 17 de octubre de 2008, Timberlake y un grupo de cantantes ofrecieron un concierto a beneficio de los hospitales Shriners, los cuales atienden a niños de bajos recursos. El evento se realizó en el hotel Planet Hollywood de Las Vegas, y contó con la participación de Rihanna, Jonas Brothers, Boyz II Men y Leona Lewis, entre otros.[37] En la misma ciudad, Justin fue el anfitrión del torneo de golf caritativo Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Kids, que se llevó a cabo entre el 13 y el 18 de octubre. En esa oportunidad, la compañía especializada en artículos de golf, Callaway Golf, anunció que se uniría a Timberlake para promocionarlo como golfista.[38]

El 21 de octubre de 2008, Timberlake y Rihanna filmaron el video musical de la canción "Rehab",[39] la cual fue escrita por el propio Justin para el tercer álbum de estudio de ella. El director fue Anthony Mandler y el rodaje se efectuó en el parque natural Vasquez Rocks de Los Ángeles, California.

Relación con Britney Spears [editar]
Britney Spears.El término de su relación sentimental con Britney Spears causó un gran revuelo en los medios de comunicación en marzo de 2002, no obstante y rodeados de muchos rumores de infidelidad, ninguno de los dos especificó la razón de la separación.[40] Cuando Justin lanzó el sencillo "Cry Me a River" en 2003, se especuló que la letra de la canción tenía relación directa con su separación con Britney y una supuesta infidelidad por parte de ésta.[41] La versión cobró importancia al estrenarse el video musical de la canción, ya que aparecía un triste Justin, acompañado de una mujer rubia, muy similar a Britney, en un ambiente lluvioso y melancólico.[41]

Con respecto a la enigmática virginidad de Britney Spears, todo quedó claro cuando Timberlake le concedió una entrevista a Barbara Walters en noviembre de 2002, donde aseguró que él había sido "el primer hombre" de Britney.[42] En agosto de 2003, Spears hizo sus descargos en la revista W, aclarando que "sólo me he acostado con una persona en toda mi vida. Fue al cabo de dos años de haber comenzado mi relación con Justin. Yo pensé que él era el elegido, pero me equivoqué. Nunca pensé que iría a lo de Bárbara Walters para traicionarme."[43]


Super Bowl XXXVIII [editar]El 2 de febrero de 2004, durante el entretiempo de la trigésima octava versión del Super Bowl, Timberlake interpretó "Rock your body" junto a Janet Jackson. Mientras bailaba y cantaba frente a una audiencia de más de 100 millones de telespectadores, Justin arrancó la parte del traje que cubría el seno izquierdo de Janet, provocando así que más de la tercera parte de los Estados Unidos y el público presente viera el pezón de Jackson adornado por una pequeña joya metálica con forma de sol.[44] Muchos lo consideraron una falta a la moral. Posteriormente, Janet se disculpó públicamente a través de un vídeo,[45] sin embargo, la diminuta joya que cubría su seno hizo que pocos creyeran esa versión y que se pensara que todo estaba preparado con anticipación.[46] Justin, por su parte, aseguró que fue una experiencia algo vergonzosa y que él no estaba enterado de que pasaría eso a mitad del show.[47] Tras este acontecimiento, Janet desistió de participar en la entrega de los premios Grammy que tuvo lugar días después, pero Timberlake sí asistió.[48]


Consumo de drogas [editar]El 16 de julio de 2006, Justin concedió una entrevista al periódico británico The Guardian, donde admitió haber consumido drogas.[49] [50] Cuando se le preguntó si alguna vez había deseado ser el presidente de Estados Unidos, él respondió: "Ya he consumido demasiadas drogas... Ya he inhalado y ya he... quién sabe. No sé si quiero esa responsabilidad". Luego de decir esta frase, Justin se disculpó argumentando que "soy como cualquier persona, me emborracho completamente, he consumido la cantidad justa de drogas y me han pillado con los pantalones abajo. Simplemente me aseguro de que no haya cámaras a mi alrededor".[49]


Críticas a American Idol [editar]En agosto de 2006, Justin criticó al popular programa de televisión American Idol diciendo que "lo encuentro ridículo".[51] También señaló que el ganador de esa temporada, Taylor Hicks, "puede ser simpático y esforzado, pero no canta absolutamente nada".[51]


Vida personal [editar]
Timberlake practicando uno de sus deportes favoritos, el golf.Justin tuvo dos romances en su adolescencia, el primero con una colegiala y el otro con la aspirante a cantante Veronica Finn. Ambas relaciones terminaron infelizmente.

Tiempo después, Timberlake mantuvo un romance con la cantante Britney Spears, que había trabajado junto a él en el show The Mickey Mouse Club. Esta relación terminó abruptamente en marzo de 2002. Según los rumores, la principal causa de la ruptura fue una supuesta infidelidad de Spears con el coreógrafo Wade Robson,[41] amigo de la pareja. El término de la relación inspiró la letra de la canción "Cry me a river",[41] uno de los temas más populares de Timberlake.

A mediados de 2002, a Justin se le relacionó con la actriz y bailarina Jenna Dewan[52] y con la actriz Alyssa Milano.[52]

Timberlake comenzó a salir con la actriz Cameron Diaz luego de encontrarse en la ceremonia de entrega de los premios Kid's Choice Awards en abril de 2003.[53] Aunque la prensa de farándula aseguraba la separación de la pareja hacía tiempo, ellos anunciaron su ruptura a comienzos de 2007, sólo unas pocas semanas después de que Diaz presentara a Justin como artista invitado del programa Saturday Night Live.[53]
